Mon, Nov 9 – Sun, Nov 15, 2026. Takino's last days of autumn, a free art-filled weekend downtown, a ramen alley turning 75, and ski season five days away, filtered down from the sources locals actually check.
●Checked Saturday, November 7, 2026 (events, weather and trains). Details can change, so confirm with the organizer before you go.
The big hillside park's autumn color festival and its green season both end on Tuesday, Nov 10. The park then closes from Nov 11 to Dec 22 and reopens for winter on Dec 23. To get there, ride the Namboku Line to Makomanai Station (about 18 minutes from Sapporo Station), then Chuo Bus route 真106 (about 30 minutes, ¥600 one way); the summer bus period ends Nov 10 too.
Takino Suzuran Hillside Park ↗ · Access ↗A free art show in two places. At SCARTS, the Kids Art Fest shows children's works made in workshops with three artists, and students from six Hokkaido art universities compete in the University Student ART Competition. The children's workshops (ages 4 to elementary school, in Japanese) run on Saturday and Sunday, Nov 14 and 15.
Sapporo Community Plaza ↗ · Art Stage ↗A free photo exhibition in SCARTS Studio 2, organized by THE NORTH FINDER. The organizer's page gives no description of the work, so it's a surprise. It sits in the same building as the ART STREET show above, so you can see both on one visit.
Sapporo Community Plaza ↗Ten Sapporo artists play in the underground walkway, five each day, hosted by Koyo Toda and guest MCs, as part of Sapporo Art Stage 2026. The organizer's page lists the artists and times but not whether it's free, so check before you go.
Sapporo Art Stage ↗A Hokkaido sake-and-snack pairing event: buy sake, try dishes from six Sapporo restaurants at ¥600 each, meet brewers and chefs, and vote for your favorite pairing. A pork brand raised on sake lees is served for the first time. Advance tickets are sold on the event's ticket site until Wed, Nov 11 (Tue, Nov 10 if you pay at a convenience store).
Event ticket page ↗The city's winter light show switches on Friday, Nov 20. The Odori Park display ends on Christmas Day, Ekimae-dori keeps its lights until Feb 11, the Red Brick Government Office until Feb 28, and Minami 1-jo-dori, Akapura and the station's south plaza until Mar 14. Several venues stay lit until midnight on Dec 23–25. Dates and hours come from the official White Illumination site, which says hours can change without notice.
Sapporo Travel ↗The Christmas market opens in Odori Park on the same Friday and runs to Christmas Day: huts and the symbol tree in the 1-chome plaza, and food and Christmas goods in the 2-chome Twinkle Market.
Sapporo Travel ↗A film festival inside the airport terminal, with five feature films in competition. The home page doesn't say whether the films have English subtitles.
Film festival ↗A Sapporo streetcar wrapped in Snow Miku, the character who cheers on Hokkaido, starts running on Saturday, Nov 21. This year's theme is ひみつの☆めたもる, posters fill the ad spaces inside, and the announcements are voiced by Fujita Saki, who voices Hatsune Miku. It is the last run for the car, which has run since 2011, and it stops on Sunday, Mar 21. Weather or inspections can change or cancel a day: ask the streetcar depot at 011-551-3944.
City of Sapporo ↗Free. Short. Just the stuff worth your time.
A narrow alley of ramen shops that began in 1951 with eight stalls and turns 75 this year. The site lists 17 shops, so you can pick by style: miso, salt, scallop, or char-grilled pork. Hours and closed days differ for each, so check the shop's own page; the shop we looked at (Gantetsu) is open 11:00 to 2:00 and takes cash only (no cards, e-money, or QR codes), with bowls at ¥850–900. Two house rules from the alley: don't queue for only one shop if it blocks its neighbors' doors, and ask before you film inside.
Gantetsu ↗ · Ganso Ramen Yokocho ↗Monday is cloudy with snow arriving in the evening (high 5°C, low −1°C, 70% chance); Tuesday is the snowy day, with snow in the morning and then clouds (high 1°C, low −2°C, 80%). From Wednesday it turns dry: Wednesday is cold overnight (low −4°C) with some sun, Thursday and Friday reach 10°C, and Saturday looks sunniest (11°C, 20%), with Sunday at 12°C (30%). The later days are the least certain. Wear shoes with grip Monday evening and Tuesday. Flying in? JR's Rapid Airport runs six trains an hour in the daytime between New Chitose Airport and Sapporo: 37 minutes by rapid (the special rapid is a little quicker), ¥1,230. JR's Chitose Line and Hakodate Line (Otaru–Sapporo) showed normal service on Yahoo! Transit on Sat, Nov 7 (20:47); JR Hokkaido's own page shows no live status, so check the morning you go. ✈️ New Chitose Airport update: the domestic terminal's No. 8 up escalator is out of service from Fri, Nov 6 until 6:00 on Sat, Nov 14, and part of the 3rd-floor passage between the domestic and international terminals stays closed until the end of June 2027 (planned), so you can't cross between the two buildings that way. Leave extra time with luggage.
tenki.jp forecast ↗ · JR Hokkaido ↗ · New Chitose Airport notice ↗Go round at your own pace with the museum's audio guide on your phone, in English, across 15 spots. At the end, the Tasting Hall pours Black Label, the Hokkaido-only Sapporo Classic (both ¥450), and the Kaitakushi beer (¥550), or all three for ¥1,200 (soft drinks ¥200), until 18:30 with 30-minute seats. Entry is ¥1,000 for adults, ¥500 from junior high to age 19, and free for elementary school and under; Hokkaido residents with photo ID pay less. The guided tours are in Japanese only. No drinking if you're driving or under 20. By bus, take the 188 from Sapporo Station's North Exit.
Sapporo Beer Museum ↗A dog café with a large fenced run that stays open in winter, with the snow cleared. Dogs can come into the café area; for the run, bring a mixed-vaccine certificate (the original or a photo) every visit; the café alone doesn't need one. The page doesn't say how to get there without a car (it lists 14 parking spaces), so call 011-578-5576 first, and note it's closed Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Bernard Square ↗Lift tickets (tax included) are ¥7,000 for adults, ¥6,500 for a 4-hour half day, ¥4,000 for junior high and high school students with ID, and ¥5,700 for ages 65 and over, plus a ¥500 refundable card deposit. The resort's bus runs only on reservation (011-598-4511), and the page strongly advises booking your ride home. Opening depends on the snow.
Sapporo Kokusai ↗ · Bus and taxi ↗Sapporo Teine's site (posted Oct 17) says it plans to open on Nov 21. Sapporo Bankei hasn't announced a date and says its lift ticket prices aren't final.
Sapporo Teine ↗ · Sapporo Bankei ↗The Mt. Moiwa scenic road and its nature trail end their season on Fri, Nov 20, or earlier if snow builds up, and reopen around Apr 29. The ropeway keeps running, but from December it opens at 11:00. Before you hike: the City of Sapporo's latest bear sighting (updated Oct 23) was on the Moiwa trail, about 600 m from the Jikeikai Hospital entrance, on Oct 23.
Mt. Moiwa notices ↗ · City of Sapporo bear sightings ↗Its winter season began Nov 6. The free shuttle leaves the New Chitose Airport police-box stop once a day at 10:30 and returns from the Pony Hall at 15:00, so plan to be at the airport by about 10:15 and leave the park by 15:00. Rides are part of the Activity Pass, which isn't offered in snowfall season. Dogs are welcome on a leash, with two dog runs (checked Oct 26).
