These Terms of Use ("Terms") cover your use of the nihonlocal.com website and the Nihon Local email newsletters, run by Puckit Holdings LLC ("Nihon Local," "we," "us," or "our"). By using our website, subscribing to a newsletter, or submitting an event, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use our services.

What we provide

Nihon Local publishes free English newsletters and web pages about events, food, and practical information for towns in Japan, starting with Otaru. We also run a free events directory where organizers can submit events for review.

Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to subscribe or use our website. If you're under 18, you need the consent of a parent or guardian.

Newsletter subscription

To subscribe, you give us a valid email address that you have access to. No account or password is needed. You can unsubscribe at any time with the link at the bottom of any email, or by emailing hello@nihonlocal.com. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information.

Event listings

If you submit an event:

• You confirm that the details are accurate and that you have the right to share them, including any names and descriptions.
• You let us publish, translate, edit, and shorten the event information on our website and in our newsletters, and link to your event page.
• We review every submission. We may decline, change, or remove a listing at any time, for example if we can't verify it, if the event changes, or if it doesn't suit our readers.
• A free listing appears in our events directory. We don't guarantee that it will appear in a newsletter, or any particular result from it.
• You'll tell us promptly if the event changes or is cancelled.

Free listings are free. If we offer paid placements in the future, their terms will be added here before they start, and paid placements will be labeled as advertising.

Your conduct

You agree not to:

• use our services for anything unlawful
• submit false, misleading, or harmful information
• try to gain unauthorized access to our systems
• send spam or malware through our forms
• scrape or crawl our website with automated tools without our written permission
• impersonate anyone or misrepresent your connection to an organization
• interfere with the operation of our website or services

Our content

The content on our website and in our newsletters, including text, graphics, logos, and images, belongs to Puckit Holdings LLC or its content suppliers and is protected by copyright and trademark law. You may read and share individual pages and newsletter issues for personal, non-commercial use. Other uses need our written permission.

Links to other sites

We link to other websites, such as event organizers, venues, and official sources. We aren't responsible for their content or practices, and a link isn't an endorsement of everything on that site.

Accuracy

We check event details against official sources, but dates, times, prices, and locations can change. Please confirm with the organizer before you go. Our services are provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, and we don't guarantee that they will be accurate, complete, uninterrupted, or error-free.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Puckit Holdings LLC and its officers, employees, and agents aren't liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of our services. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Our services are currently free, so that amount is zero.

Indemnification

You agree to defend and hold harmless Puckit Holdings LLC and its officers, employees, and agents from claims, damages, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) that arise from your use of our services, your event submissions, or your breaking these Terms.

Ending your use

You can stop using our services at any time by unsubscribing and no longer visiting our website. We may suspend or end your access at any time, including if we reasonably believe you've broken these Terms.

Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms. Changes will be posted here with a new date. If you keep using our services after a change, you accept the updated Terms.

Severability and entire agreement

If any part of these Terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies. These Terms and our Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and Nihon Local about our services.
